DAY 2 EMPACT LEADERSHIP SUMMIT!

  • Rating: 5 after 4 votes
Hello! My name is Heather Rogers, and I am a Co-Captain for the Blue Team. Wow -- what an amazing day we had! Today marks the 2nd day of the EMpact Leadership Summit, and we started our day with a bang! The girls showed up 30 minutes early just to decorate our van for the 1st "outing".

We headed off, first thing this morning, to the Boys and Girls Club to do A.R.K. which stands for Acts of Random Kindness. The Boys and Girls Club needed some of their bleachers painted, so our girls were there to do whatever needed to be done. Peter's Paint provided all of the supplies necessary, including paint, paintbrushes, and rollers. We are so proud of the girls for giving everything they had to do a job well done. After everyone was finished painting, there was one team that did not get their bleachers completely finished. They had run out of paint, so they were only able to repaint the boards that had previously been painted. But, instead of leaving their job unfinished, they were able to get more paint and go back in the afternoon to finish their work. They didn't have to go back, but they wanted to give their very best. They also wrote a special quote on the bleachers "It's Not Over Til I Win!" This definitely left an EMpact on everyone in the group. While the girls were outside painting, they realized there was more work that needed to be done like making the bleachers more sturdy, so they have already started planning another community service project to repair the bleachers to be more safe and appealing. You, go girls!

When we returned to River of Life, we went right into our Walking, Poise, and Social Skills Class, taught by Patty Tackett, the owner of Dance City in Hot Springs, AR. She taught about social etiquette details that are often overlooked and most people consider "simple", but, truly are not. The girls learned the proper way to sit, stand, walk across a stage, introduce themselves to others, speak into a microphone, etc. It is amazing to me how you can think something should be so simple, but, yet can be so challenging. The girls learned so much in this class. Some of the girls were very timid and insecure when the class started, but at the end of the class, walked away confident.

Later in the afternoon, the girls were able to learn the meanings of their names. After they heard the meanings of their names, each one of the girls sat amazed knowing they were called out by NAME for a reason. We are so proud of each of our girls. One of the girls was actually able to break out of her shell today and tell her "story" for the first time. It definitely brought tears to so many eyes. How awesome it is to know that she has a purpose, and she knows that her story will change the world!

Tricia Rosson, of Stephens Inc., spoke today and taught the girls formal etiquette techniques. They were able to learn everything from what you should do when you first walk into a room to be seated, to what silverware you should use at what time, to how you should carry on conversation with others at the table. She was such a wonderful teacher. After the class the girls were tested with a challenge on setting a formal table in just one minute.

The girls are awesome team players. They have not only been concerned about the girls in "their" group, but also about everyone at the Summit. After the Teamwork Lesson with Staci Wallace, founder of EMwomen, the girls recognized the power that teamwork will play in their future success as business leaders, employees and world changers. The girls were issued a challenge for their teams that gave them two days to prepare a skit on teamwork, collaberation or diversity.

We started the day out with a bang, and we ended the day with a bang!!! Staci Wallace ended today's sessions talking about goal setting and dreaming big. The girlls realized they need to have goals and dreams that are above and beyond what they could ever hope for or believe in. We are so excited to see what tomorrow will bring, and each day after.
Love to All!!
Heather Rogers
